Löyly – From Proto-Finnic *leülü, from Proto-Finno-Ugric *lewle (“spirit, soul”)
Finnish word with no direct translation in English, refers to the steam that’s generated when water is thrown onto the hot sauna stones. This steam is the life force of the Finnish sauna, altering the room’s humidity and heat, and creating the characteristic sauna sensation.
2024 costs for a custom designed sauna is roughly $130 per square foot.
All Spiritwood Saunas follow The Rules:
- Bench height; ‘Feet Above Stones’
- High ceilings; At least 7.5′. 8′ is better
- Adequate space; Minimum of 2 sq’ of bench space per bather
- Strong ‘Löyly’; Proper venting, insulation, and vapor controls
- Sanitization; Waterproof floor with a drain for an occasional spray down
